Here we offer some of the most asked for guides.
We have put together this guide for backing up footage with our DVR so you can then store it for later viewing or give to the police if required.
First and foremost you will need to connect a memory stick to one of the USB ports on the DVR, there is one on the front and one on the rear. Before we start please make sure that the USB stick it is formatted to the Fat32 file system. This can be done by plugging in to a computer and checking the properties, it is also a good idea to make sure the the stick is blank in case there is a lot of footage that needs to be backed up, but later on we will find the exact total size of the space required.
On the DVR click on the “Start” button in the bottom left corner of the screen and then choose “Search and Backup” from the popup menu, if you can not click it or its greyed out login to the DVR and try again.
Then across the top of the screen choose the link for “By Time”.
The screen below shows the layout of the main backup window, if you already know the time and date of the incident you want to back up make sure you have it noted down some where, we can also find this information out later in the guide as you will also be able to both search through and backup the footage from this one screen.
Under the picture section you will notice the squares with crosses in the middle by clicking on one of them a pop up will allow you to choose the camera or cameras that you would like to backup from. Choose as many as you require and then click “Add”.
The top half of the screen will now allow you to, if you do not know the start and end time and date of the footage you want, to scrub through and note down that information. Once you have that, click on the “Set Backup Time” button in the bottom left.
Another popup screen will appear this time allowing you to enter the previously noted down information, clicking on the clock icon will let you adjust the time and date. You can either click above a below the relevant numbers to adjust the dials or if you haver over with the mouse you can use the mouse wheel. Click “OK” when finished.
This will close the pop up and you will notice that the “Set Backup Time” button has been replaced with the start/end date/time, the duration of the recording and as mention at the beginning the total size of data that the memory stick requires.
If the memory stick has not been inserted yet, please insert now and then click the backup button on the right hand side.
A record backup window will appear and this should auto populate with the memory stick information, the Format will be AVI and you can also create or delete files and folders if you need to organise any items you may have on the stick. Once you’re happy to proceed click on the backup button in the bottom right.
If you would like to check the files have backed up correctly we have a small selection of media players and zip utilities which have the required H.265 codec built in to play the files and these can be found on our support site as well.
We have put together this guide for setting up a remote connection with our DVR’s so you can view your cameras from potentially anywhere in the world. We can also offer our Remote Setup Service where we can setup the system for you, this utilises port forwarding on your router and has the added ability to view your cameras from a Mac or PC.
We will need to set up the DVR firstly so that it is ready to accept the connection from your devices this can be done by the follow steps:
First and foremost connect the the DVR to your router either by an ethernet cable or, if running an ethernet cable is a problem, using a wireless extender which will allow your router to pick up the DVR or a Home Plug can also be used.
On the DVR click on the “Start” button in the bottom left corner of the screen and then choose “Settings” from the popup menu, if you can not click it or its greyed out login to the DVR and try again.
Then under Network click on the TCP/IP link.
On this page make sure there is a tick in the “Obtain an IPv4 address automatically” box and then click apply to save.
Once done, across the top of the page next go to Port and change the HTTP port and Server port to any 3-5 digit number but they need to be different from each other, then click apply to save.
Across the top again to UPnP and make sure there is a tick in the “Enable” box and that the map type is set to auto and click apply to save.
Across the top again to NAT and make sure there is a tick in the “Enable” box and click apply to save.
Leave this page open on your screen as we will be needing the serial number which you can see under the QR code or the QR code itself later in the guide.
We will now be covering the app side of the connection.
So on your phone or tablet go to your app store, either the Appstore on Apple or Play store on Android and search for an app called “SuperLive Plus”, it should look like the image below and install the app and agree to any permissions it asks for.
When first starting the app it will take you through several tutorial pages which you can either swipe through or tap on skip and you will then be presented with the option of local or start, tap on start.
You will now need to fill in the details for the connection: The serial number (which can be found on the NAT page which should still be displayed on your monitor). A nickname of your choosing the default being “DeviceName1” and Username/Password for the DVR. If you would like to bypass this stage tap on skip in the top right corner which will then take you to the Live page.
From here you can access other features or add multiple DVRs or connections if you have them by doing the following. Tap on the three little lines in the top left to bring up the options menu and choose Server List.
This page will list all of you connection entries, but at the moment there should be none. Tap on the “+” symbol in the top right and choose scan code and then scan the QR code on the DVR monitor screen, the information will be filled out for you for adding a device. You may still need to fill out the device name, user and password for the DVR and tap save.
Once saved it will take you back to the server list page and there should now be one entry. All things being well the little wifi icon on the entry should be a solid and green colour at which point you can tap on the back arrow (top left) to take you out and back to your live camera feeds. If the Wifi icon is a grey/black colour and searching then tap on the pen and paper icon to allow you to edit the information and make sure all information is correct re-typing the password for example is a common culprit as is auto correcting on the user and domain host and save to keep the settings.
This guide will show you have to set up the NVMS software to veiw your DVR and Cameras on your computer. We can also offer our Remote Setup Service where we can setup the system for you, this utilises port forwarding on your router allows you to view your cameras from a Smartphone, Tablet and computer (Mac or PC).
Firstly you will need to download and install the the correct software for your computer either NVMS 2.1 for Mac or NVMS 2.1 for PC.
Once installed you will have the below icons, the monitor client and the server tray, the server tray can for the most part be ignored and the monitor client will start the software.
When the NVMS software starts you will be presented with the login dialog the default login details will be username: admin and password: 123456.
If you would like bypass the login screen in the future you can also tick the “remember password” and “Auto Login” this will skip the login next time you open the software.
Next you will be presented with the option to create security question and answers or you can leave them blank and skip past this.
Once the software main screen opens, it may have selected “storage playback” by default
You will want to click on the resource management tab to then click the “Add, Edit or Delete Device” tab to be able to add the recorder to the software.
A window will then pop up and if we’re lucky it may recognise the DVR and have it listed in the quickly add tab it will then just be a matter of checking the box next to the DVR and clicking OK.
If the DVR isn’t in the list then we will need to add it manually.
by clicking on the IP address it will give you some options for connection types, the three we usually use is “IP Address, Domain Name and Serial Number”.
The IP Address can be either the local address of the DVR usually starting with 192.168.x.x or it can be a Public IP Address.
The Domain name can be a DDNS address for example myDVR.ddns.net they can be set up at sites like noip.com.
The serial Number can be found on the NAT page of the network settings of the Recorder itself.
The next step is to input the password for the DVR.
Also select the area (or group) you want to assign the cameras too, this is normally more important if you need to intergrate multiple DVRs and want to keep them in orderly sections. There is a default area as a standard general pool.
There is also the option to customise the areas so they are more specific to your needs which can be done by clicking on the create area button.
To create a new area click on the Parent Area drop down and choose the blank option, input the area name (this can be called anything you like) and then OK, if you do not change the parent area it will nest your new area under which ever area you have assigned as the parent.
You will then be taken back to the resource management screen where you will find your DVR has now been added to the list, you will also notice that the information looks “greyed out” while it is searching for and connecting to the DVR
this will turn black and fill out the channel, alarm in/out sections once the connect has been established.
If after a few minutes it doesn’t turn black, if you look under the Online Status column it will give an error message, in most cases the information that has been input may be incorrect and will need adjusting which can be done by clicking on the pen/paper under the Edit column.
Clicking on the “Live View” tab across the top will now allow you to view your cameras but the camera layout will need to be populated first. On the left of the screen under “Monitoring Point” you will notice the default area and if you created a custom area that will also be listed there. A small “+” symbol will be to the left of the title to signify that area has some cameras assigned to it and can be expanded by clicking.
Hold left-click on one of the cameras and drag across to one of the blank window to the right and keep doing this for each of your cameras, to change the layout for more cameras at the bottom of the feed windows you will notice white boxes with numbers in and this will split the window accordingly or the white box with the black triangle will give even more layouts
and that’s it for getting started with the NVMS software, when you come to close the program, click OK to exit and it will also ask to save the populated camera layout so when next started it will be ready to go, click yes to save.
This guide will go through the process of adjusting the settings on your Edge browser so it is compatible with the plugins required to connect to your DVR and view your cameras. This guide is for Windows PCs only and if you are using a Mac please refer to the NVMS Guide instead.
Firstly you will need to make sure you have the old Internet Explorer installed on your computer this will normally be found under Start> W> Windows Accessories or by clicking on the magnifying glass and typing IE in to the search box. If it’s there you will see the familiar blue ‘e’ with gold circle around it, if it’s not then you will need to use the NVMS software instead, NVMS 2.1 for Mac or NVMS 2.1 for PC.

I knew nothing about the technological side of installing my own CCTV until I came across CCTV42's website back in 2016. On the strength of their no nonsense, straightforward advice both from what I read on their website, and their response to my email enquiry I bought a complete setup from them... DVR, cameras, baluns, the lot
Fast forward to present day, and the need to replace my DVR I had no hesitation in going back to CCTV42.And again their (in particular Marcus's) advice was exemplary.
For a diy self installer everything is explained in simple terms.
I am now up to date with a shiny new DVR thanks to them.
The cameras they sold me back in 2016 are still as good as they were when new - A testament to the quality gear they supply.
In an age where customer service usually means a recorded message that drones on and on to say how important we are to them, cctv42 is like a breath of fresh air.
They employ people, real ones; people who are technically proficient and who care about their customers.
I’ve been buying from and seeking advice from cctv42 for nearly fifteen years now and they’ve never been anything less than exceptional. Truly remarkable and I don’t know how they do it at their prices.
I've had a system from these guys for quite a few years and periodically need to add or alter settings. Not only is the kit very good but they are an exceptionally helpful group and I would have no problem in recommending them whatsoever.
*CCTV42 Is a trustworthy company who I have purchased from for over
5 years.
Recently purchased their really smart HD-DVR TVI Recorder. It is state of the art and upto date. Was interested in wire connection to hook up the PTZ. Was very pleased with their TVI Model. Henry & Marcus & Team are there to assist.
This is my preferred retailer for CCTV.
